Communications Associate

Write and coordinate communications that make Shield AI's autonomy, aircraft, and defense work clear to outside audiences.

What the role actually is

Shield AI is hiring a communications associate in Washington, DC. The role supports press materials, executive communications, social copy, thought leadership, partner coordination, and messaging for defense, technology, and policy audiences.

This is not product marketing ownership, but it is close to how autonomous defense systems are explained in public. The work is about making technical claims understandable without losing the context around mission, policy, and trust.

What you would work on

  • Draft and edit press releases, social posts, op-eds, marketing materials, and executive communications
  • Support media outreach, message prep, speaking opportunities, and external partner coordination
  • Translate AI, autonomy, defense, and aerospace ideas into clear audience-specific copy
  • Coordinate reviews and approvals across communications, business, product, and technical teams

What they are asking for

  • Communications, journalism, public relations, defense technology, or related experience
  • Strong writing and editing judgment across short-form and long-form formats
  • Familiarity with media relations, executive communications, and technical messaging
  • Interest in AI, autonomy, defense technology, and public-sector audiences

Why this one is worth a look

Autonomous aircraft are unusually hard to communicate because the audience includes customers, policymakers, operators, and the broader public. This role is a useful entry point for someone who wants to build that translation muscle in a high-stakes robotics category.
