Design and UX

Senior Product Designer

Design HMI and ground-control station workflows for operators commanding Shield AI autonomous aircraft.

What the role actually is

Shield AI is hiring a senior product designer focused on human-machine interfaces for ground control station software. The role designs the displays, flows, and interaction patterns operators use to plan, command, and monitor autonomous aircraft.

This is a classic high-stakes robotics UX role. The designer has to make complex system state understandable under operational pressure, while working with pilots, systems engineers, software teams, and human factors experts.

What you would work on

  • Design HMI systems for UAV ground control station displays
  • Turn complex autonomy and aircraft requirements into operator-facing interfaces
  • Create user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and Figma prototypes
  • Apply human factors principles around workload, usability, and situational awareness

What they are asking for

  • Product design or HMI experience for complex technical systems
  • Strong prototyping and visual design ability for mission-critical interfaces
  • Comfort collaborating with operators, pilots, engineers, and human factors specialists
  • Ability to reason about safety, workload, and clarity under time pressure

Why this one is worth a look

Ground control design is where autonomy still has to answer to human judgment. The role is valuable because it deals directly with how operators understand, trust, and intervene in robotic systems when the cost of confusion is high.
