Design and UX

Product Designer, Defense

Own defense product design across real-time operator interfaces and enterprise tools for autonomy programs.

What the role actually is

Applied Intuition is hiring a product designer for its defense product surface. The role spans real-time command, control, and situational awareness interfaces as well as enterprise web tools used by defense engineering teams and customers.

This is a high-context autonomy design role. The work is about helping operators, engineers, and partners understand what the system is doing, where it needs human approval, and how autonomy moves from bespoke program work into repeatable products.

What you would work on

  • Own end-to-end design for one or more defense products, from research through shipped UI
  • Design operator interfaces for tablets, ground stations, shipboard systems, and airborne environments
  • Build approval and escalation patterns for agentic autonomy where humans stay meaningfully in the loop
  • Extend a defense design system across real-time and enterprise workflows
  • Support demos, program reviews, and customer-facing design conversations

What they are asking for

  • Product, tools, interaction, or systems design experience in complex technical products
  • Strong visual and interaction design craft with an ability to learn defense context quickly
  • Comfort conducting primary research with operators, analysts, engineers, and partners
  • Ability to prototype clearly and work closely with PM and engineering teams
  • Willingness to travel to bases, ranges, customer sites, and related field contexts

Why this one is worth a look

This is one of the more direct "robot UX under pressure" roles on the market. The design problem is not just dashboard polish; it is trust, timing, constrained connectivity, and the question of when an autonomous system should ask a person to decide.
